Daykin, Joseph of Shoregill Head
 
This is the last Will and Testament of me Joseph Daykin of Shoregill Head in the Township of Melbecks in the Parish of Grinton in Swaledale in the North Riding of the County of York Farmer I order and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid and satisfied by my Executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease

I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Daykin the best Bed Stead Bed Bedding Sheets and all belonging thereto for her own use and benefit absolutely

I give and bequeath unto my son Jonathan Daykin one moiety or half share of all my live stock of Cattle and Sheep on or about the Farm and which I may be possessed of at the time of my decease (except the mare called Fanny) Also one moiety or half share of the hay crops which may be on the farm on the sixth day of April after my decease the [?] I direct that he my son Jonathan shall be put in actual possession of the said one half of the live stock bequeathed to him as above

And I give and devise and bequeath unto my dear wife Isabella Daykin All that my Copyhold house situate in the village of Gunnerside with the appurtenances thereunto belonging for her own use and benefit during the term of her natural life or during her widowhood And also the use and benefit of all my Household furniture Beds and Bedding (except the best bed which I have bequeathed to my daughter as above) Dairy Utensils and Husbandry implements and Gears of all descriptions as long as she lives or remains my widow And as to all the rest and residue of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresover which I may be possessed of or entitled to at the time of my decease

I give and bequeath the yearly interest or income of the same unto my said dear wife Isabella Daykin for her own use and benefit absolutely for and during the term of her natural life or as long as she remains my widow But I charge the above bequest with the payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the cost of proving this my will and all legacy duty and cost whatsoever relating to this my will and after all costs debts and charges have been paid thereout and the cost and charge of carrying on the farm until the first sixth day of April after my decease

Then all the said residue to be converted into money securities for money or money value and the clear yearly interest or income of the said total amount of the said residuary bequest to be paid to my said widow as long as long as she lives or remains my widow the same to be paid half yearly or yearly as may be agreed on by my Trustees hereinafter appointed

And so soon or at the time my wife ceases to be my widow either by death or marriage I give devise and bequeath the above named Copyhold house situate in the village of Gunnerside aforesaid and the total sum of the Residuary bequest from which the yearly interest have been bequeathed to my wife as above And all other estate and effects unto my son and daughter Jonathan Daykin and Hannah Daykin share and share alike their heirs executors administrators and assigns

And I hereby appoint my son Jonathan Daykin of Dykeheads and my said wife Isabella Daykin of Shoregill Head both in the said Township of Melbecks aforesaid to be my Executor and Executrix and Trustees of this my will Hereby revoking all former wills In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand this twenty second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight
