i am tracing my family tree w,we know from what my grandfather told my father that the coates family-now residing in hunwick co.durham-came from arkengarthdale in around 1840-50.question is does anyone know if there are any records in your area that show where certain families moved to and when

Have you seen Christine Amsden's web site at http://www.geocities.com/beaulands which contains the 1841 and 1851 census records for that particular dale. They may help you to pinpoint when your ancestors left Arkengarthdale.

that previous message was posted on your site some weeks ago.
since then i have found that my gr-gr-gr-grandfather[vincent coates]was born in bowes in 1815.
i am just wondering if you know of anyone that may have any lists of people living around arkengarthdale in the years previous to 1815 as i am keen to trace my family back-as we believe they came from around your area .
