hi,
anyone who may have some links to my ancestors, please feel free to get in touch -
Thomas Coates [may be Coats] born in 1715 in Melbecks/Grinton area, the son of Thomas Coates[s] and Dorothy Alderson who married in 1713. I can't find any information about the latter Thomas but there is a reference to Sturfitt Hall [Stourthwaite Hall near Booze], where the family moved in the 1750s.

any information is also very welcome!.

Interesting thread  Some of the Coates families in our tree have origins in Bowes Yorkshire, you never know who you'll find or where they are from. We have a William Coates from Bowes (father likely to have been Thomas Coates from Barnard Castle/ Bowes) who married Sarah Stoddart (also from Bowes) in 1692 they move around a bit some of their children were born in Kirkby Malham. Some of their grandchildren were born in Kettlewell but they moved to Newbiggin. We also have Adam Coates from Kettlewell who married Mary Pawson in 1770 Burnsall. One of their children Nancy Ann Coates married David Race, David and Nancy moved around too and one of their daughters Margaret married James Walker and they moved to Booze and later up in Arkengarthdale. So don't be surprised if your Coates ancestors are a little harder to trace.
