Rose Cottage

Postby David » Mon Jun 14, 2004 9:26 pm

Hi to everyone

As a young child in the late 1950's I stayed with my family in Gunnerside in Rose Cottage. I haven't visited Gunnerside since but have many happy memories of visiting the leadmines, dodging bulls in fields and cooling off in the stream.

I am planning on visiting Gunnerside again soon and was wondering if Rose Cottage is still there. it was in the centre of the village and the pub was visible from one of the windows.

Does anyone remember Rose Cottage?

Thanks

David

David,

Rose Cottage in Gunnerside is the home of the village blacksmith, Stephen Calvert. See 'The Old Working Smithy' item on this page http://www.swaledale.net/attractions.stm

The Gunnerside Millennium CD, produced by the villagers, to celebrate the start of the third Millenium has a picture of the blacksmith and his family at the door of Rose Cottage. Copies of the CD are still available. See http://www.gunnerside.info/miscellaneous.html

We'd be pleased to read about your memories of visits to Gunnerside in the late 50s.
