CAUTION TO FARMERS.
At the North Riding Petty Sessions for the Gilling West Division, held at Richmond on Saturday, William Kilburn, of Muker, in Upper Swaledale, was charged by Superintendent Gregory with having ninety-four sheep suffering from scab which he neglected to report to the authorities. The Chairman (Mr Cradock) told defendant that he was liable to a fine of £470 for neglecting to report the case, but as he appeared to have been in ignorance with respect to the immediate reporting of the case, they would only impose a fine of 1d per head—which, with costs, amounted to £1 5s 1d.—William Hutchinson of Kirkby Stephen, who has a farm conducted in Swaledale, was fined £1 5s 10d, including costs, for a similar offence, he having had seventy sheep on the moor amongst many other flocks. He neglected to report the case for a considerable time, rendering himself liable to a penalty of £350. |
