RICHMOND.
A terrific gale has swept over Richmond and the dales, accompanied by heavy rain, which commenced falling two hours earlier. The River Swale is flooded and gradually rising. Near Scabba Wath, between Gunnerside and Reeth, the embankment was slipping down to the river. Mr Geo. Sunter, calf dealer, and others aiming for Richmond market had to return and cross by Thinswood on the high side of the valley. Hundreds of rabbits have been washed out of the river embankments, and especially so down by Catterick Bridge. Large numbers of trees have been uprooted, and some very large ones.
